What interests you most about your new internship?
I love web design (design in general, really). It’s so interesting to me to be able to take a blank page and turn it into something awesome. This internship allows me to expand on the base knowledge I got in classes and turn it into real life situations. And it helps small businesses, which is something close to my heart since my dad owns a small business.
What skill do you think you will enjoy using most in your job and why?
I can’t wait to learn all of the different ways to create a web page. But, I am a huge Adobe junkie, so any form of using Photoshop or Illustrator or InDesign excites me. I still learn new things on there and it’s great. So, I think I’ll enjoy laying out pages in mock-ups as well as turning them into a live site.
If you could create a children’s book, what would it be about and what role would you play in creating it?
I don’t think there are enough children’s books about young artists. So, my book would encourage kids to experiment with art and would teach them that it’s okay to want to do art instead of science or writing if they love art. I would want to design the whole thing! And I may write it too since I’ve done some writing before.
If you could accomplish a dream hobby, what would it be and why?
Honestly, I am terrified of heights. I have thought about all of the things I would want to try if I wasn’t. So, rock climbing would probably be one that I would love to master! I love nature, so being up there and able to look out at it would be one of the neatest things ever.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received and how did you apply it to your life?
I have always heard over and over that I should be myself. It always sounded like such a cliché. But when I was in my first years of college trying to decide if I was going to stay in the engineering field or switch to something I loved, that advice really rang out. I wasn’t being creative in that field and needed to express myself in ways other than through math and science equations. So, I switched to graphic design. Best decision I’ve ever made!
If you could write your own personal tagline, what would it be?
“Life is what you make it. Make it beautiful.”
